Obituary for Charles Farley

Charles MacLaury Farley, 93 of Schooner Cove in Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of May 27th after a short illness.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ to Professor Arthur J. Farley and Edith MacLaury Farley, he graduated from Rutgers Preparatory School and later received a BA degree from Dartmouth College after serving as an officer and pilot in the U.S. Naval Air Force in Corpus Christi, TX.

Returning to Hanover, NH with his wife Leonora, they had two daughters, Carol Ann and Ellen Margaret, while he attended the Amos Tuck School of Business, where he received his MBA.

Upon graduating, he went to work for R.H. Macy, living in Manhasset, Long Island, where he eventually became a regional store manager and Vice-President of Macy’s in Albany, NY. Later in his career, he served as Vice-President and General Merchandise Manager for Carroll Reed Catalog and Retail Stores, based in North Conway, New Hampshire. He was instrumental in developing trading partners in Hong Kong in support of retail merchandising.

He lived a wonderful, loving marriage to Leonora Stockmann Farley for 73 years, and enjoyed countless summers at their home in Pemaquid Point for over 60 years. His love of boating and gardening was often accompanied by his black Lab...Blackie.

Besides his wife, Leonora of Damariscotta, he is survived by his daughters, Carol Ann Hintermeister and her husband Henry, and Ellen Farley Coupe and her husband Arthur; six grandchildren, Ellen Ann, Karey, Matthew and Jessica Hintermeister, and Archie and Craig Coupe; as well as five great-grandchildren.
