Condolences

Condolence From: Bill Wirz
Condolence: Al was a very fine man. I was fortunate to have him as my first supervisor when I arrived in Painted Post to work for Ingersoll-Rand in 1980. Al had a profound influence on me as an engineer but also as a professional person. Had I worked for anyone less of an engineer, less of a person, I would have gone in a different direction.

I remember seeing Al at an Auction near Corning. He had won a bid on a very small toy sewing machine, all metal. He certainly had an eye for antiques. I also purchased a type box from Al...I think he gave me the friends discount for sure but would not take any more for it.

Recently, when he was in the paper in Maine for his work on models, I had sent him an EMAIL. I hope he received it. If not, he has received it now.

I am so glad that when my wife and I visited Maine in the summer of 2016, that we made it a point to visit Al in Chase Point. He was just as I remembered...maybe a little older but still as sharp as a tack. He asked about all the old names at Ingersoll-Rand...he had them all written down. He showed me his models and we had time to reminisce. What a great couple of hours. When we left, I said to him "we'll see you again". He said "yes we will". Time passes.

What a great guy, engineer and friend. I miss him.

Condolence: My deepest condolences to Al's family. When I started my career with Ingersoll Rand in 1978, Al was one of the first engineers that I met along with Ken White. Al was the ultimate role model. He was such a soft spoken gentleman with endless compressor knowledge who was respected by everyone that he interacted with, including co-workers and clients. I last saw Al at Wegmans in Corning, NY a number of years ago and cherished the nice visit we had. What a wonderful man. I was blessed to have known him.

Condolence: We are sorry to hear about the passing of Al. He was a great neighbor. We have fond memories of him walking with our golden, Tally. She would watch for him out our living room window. When she saw him she would wait by the door. We would let her out without a leash and she would walk the circle with him. A true gentle soul.
Sincerely, Mark and Dianne Gimbel

Condolence: We are heartbroken to hear of Alton's passing. We regularly bring in Chunk, our 125 pound dog, who is a registered therapy dog, and Alton's great buddy. If he wasn't building his 3D models, he would be resting on his bed and would always move over to share a space with Chunk...One pat on the bed with his hand and Chunk would be in mid-air, with Alton laughing, waiting for the great "crash landing." One of my favorite memories is the two of them, siting on the bed side by side, looking out the window with Chunk's massive paw on Alton's leg. We feel so grateful for those moments...such a special man... sending love to his family and friends.
