Condolence From: Xiangqian Wu
Condolence: I was one of the note takers for a lecture by Kit in a 1990 NCAR Summer Colloquium. He started with various ways of weather observations, and he talked more like a standup comedian than a scientist. He was well known for giving a talk without "viewgraphs" while capturing audience's attention. I transcribed them literally and can recite most of them to this day, including the very first sentence that was edited out from the publication. Thank you Kit for enlightening so many people in so many ways.

Condolence: My sincere condolences to your family. Kit was a mentor for me in my studies at Univ. of Wisconsin in meteorology. I have often thought of him and this is not the way I had planned on hearing from or about him. God be with you as you grow through this adjustment.

Condolence: This is a wonderful poem that my mother and her father would often quote. I believe Kit lived up to the fight! As Kit said about my grandson Julian when he died: "Fare Forward, Kit." Do not go gentle into that good night Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953 Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Condolence: Dear Hayden Family, I'm glad that Kit is at peace. I will miss him very much. I'll miss spotting him on his bike all over town. We made so much theater and music together from the time I first moved to Maine 17 years ago, and he was always a star, and my lifetime favorite curmudgeon. I was honored to finally get to be his director in what he told a reporter was the favorite role of his lifetime: Norman Thayer in "On Golden Pond." What a zest for life he had! He played many characters, but was a Real Character in life. I'll never forget my visits with him while he was ill. Another side of the Real Kit emerged, his great affection. With my sincere condolences, Ruth

Condolence: I'm so sorry to hear of Kit's death but also relieved to hear that his suffering is over. I knew him mostly as a singer, as a wit and as a raconteur. I will miss him.
