Obituary for Myrtle "Meg" Lane

Myrtle "Meg" Lane
Myrtle “Meg” Elizabeth Lane, 45, passed away peacefully after a long illness on the morning of May 21st at her home in Pemaquid. Born in Damariscotta on June 3, 1971, and named after her two grandmothers, she was the daughter of Barbara Hanna and Albert Lane.

Meg was a unique individual who attended Bristol Consolidated School and Boothbay Regional School. She possessed a strong will that helped her through many challenges, and she was an active participant of the Special Olympics during her school years. She had an unexpected and spontaneous sense of humor that delighted those who loved and cared for her.

Meg was a spirited character who enjoyed marching in, and watching parades, taking car rides on Bristol's bumpy dirt roads, going to the beach, swimming in the ocean, dancing and singing, and drinking a good cup of tea. She was patriotic and she loved flags, but more than anything, she had a great love for her family.

Meg was predeceased by her grandfathers, George Hanna and Lyndon Lane.

She is survived by a large extended family, including her mother, Barbara Hanna of Bristol; father, Albert Lane of Woolwich; siblings, Erica Swift of Saco, Alison Lane Herrick of Scarborough, Willie Lane of New Salem, Massachusetts, and Joe Lane of Damariscotta; grandmothers, Myrtle Hanna of Round Pond, and Elizabeth Lane of New Harbor; her beloved chihuahua, Moose; a niece, three nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and caregivers.

A graveside service for Meg will be held at 2:00pm, on Sunday, May 28th at the New Harbor Cemetery in New Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Meg’s memory to the Community Housing Improvement Project, Inc. of Maine (CHIP), PO Box 6, New Harbor, ME 04554 or via www.CHIPINC.org.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
