Obituary for Carlton Johnson

Carlton Johnson
Carlton C. Johnson, 65 of Pemaquid, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on the evening of June 19, 2017. Born in Rockland, ME on May 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Alton and Audrey (Willis) Johnson.

Carlton grew up in Rockland, attending local schools and graduating from Rockland High School where he played baseball. Upon graduation he went to work, and was a true “jack of all trades”. He worked at Rockland Leather for many years, worked as a painter and varnisher for both boats and homes, and upon moving to Bristol in 1995, went to work as a lobsterman. No matter what he was doing, he always took a great deal of pride in his work.

A lover of life, he enjoyed fishing in both fresh and saltwater, and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and both professional golf and wrestling. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and nieces & nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Alton and James Johnson; mother-in-law, Sandy Stover; and a nephew, Kenny Jellison, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Johnson; daughter, Jackie Pomelow; five siblings, Alton “Squashy” Johnson and his wife Carolyn, Donna Masterson and her husband Jim, Jeannie Fowles and her husband Wayne, Linda Jellison and her husband Kenny, and Rusty Johnson and his significant other Jill; four grandchildren, Joseph Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Jasmine Pomelow, and Maddie Griffin; good friend, Terry Lagasse; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Carlton’s life will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday, July 1st at his brothers (Squashy’s) home, 672 Atlantic Highway in Warren.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for his family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
