Obituary for Shirley Haley

Shirley Haley
Shirley Estella Haley, 94, wife of the late Earle Haley, passed away on the evening of September 25th at the LincolnHealth - Miles campus in Damariscotta. Born on December 27, 1922 in South Bristol, she was the daughter of Charles and Lettie Gamage.

Shirley lived her entire life in South Bristol, graduating from South Bristol High School in 1940. She married Earle in 1941, and raised her children there. At the age of 92, she moved into Hodgdon Green in Damariscotta, but her heart never left South Bristol.

She knit and crocheted, and made beautiful braided rugs. She had a very green thumb, and truly enjoyed digging in the dirt...second only to shopping. An avid animal lover, she found great pleasure in feeding, and watching, the birds.

She and Earle loved to camp and sell at the flea market, making many friends in the process. She was always ready with tea and cookies for visiting friends and family, and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earle; sisters, Cleo Barnes and Amy Pierce; brothers, Buster, Edward, and Arnold Gamage; and a precious great-granddaughter, Jessica Eugley.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly, and son-in-law, Leonard Eugley; son, Gary Haley; two sisters-in-law, Bunny Gamage and Gloria Gamage; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, on Friday, September 29th, at the West Bristol Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, PO Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
