Obituary for Peter Pardoe

Peter Pardoe
Peter Peabody Pardoe, 84, of Alna, passed away on Nov. 11 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick. Pete was born on Oct. 3, 1933 in Somerville, NJ, the son of the late Marcus P. and Hilda (Hoffman) Pardoe.

An alumnus of Lafayette College in Easton, PA, with a B.S. in physics, his professional career has been a long and winding road. After working for a year at Tungsol Electric in Washington, NJ he returned to Lafayette in 1956 as a faculty member in his first teaching post. In 1962 Pete joined the research team at Johns Hopkins APL (Applied Physics Laboratory) in MD, for NASA’s satellite program. In 1967 Pete moved his family to Canaan, NH, where he joined the faculty at Canaan College. Pete re-located to Malone, NY in 1973 and was on the high school faculty in Malone’s school district for 18 years.

Family ties in Maine brought Pete to Alna in 1990, where he taught at Boothbay Harbor High School for two years. Then, following in the footsteps of his mother and grandfathers on both sides in their passions and pursuits in the antiques business, he opened his shop “Part Of The Past” in Wiscasset. He enjoyed the thrills and frustrations of the antiques dealer, the next big find and the next big sale, the bragging, camaraderie and especially the lasting friendships with so many.

Always happy to see his kids and family, sometimes under the guise of “Work Projects At Homeplace” he enticed people up and enjoyed every minute of it all.

Pete leaves behind his wife Elizabeth (Bette) Caton Pardoe; children: daughter, Catherine Porcello and husband Joe of Nashua, NH; son, David (Hux) Pardoe and wife Wendy of Lebanon, NH; son, Peter (Rusty) Pardoe and companion Rita Nalette of West Lebanon, NH; their mother, Betty J. Pardoe of Lebanon, NH; stepson, Brian Caton and his son Kyle of Lebanon, ME; stepdaughter, Sarah Caton of Warren, ME; grandchildren, Jackie Porcello-Smith, Nicole Porcello, Sara Churchill-Winsor, Wayne Churchill, Alicia Rawson, Jeremy Pardoe; great-granddaughter, Jayden Foster; many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Peter’s life will held in May, 2018 in Alna, date to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
