Obituary for Julia Kersteen

Julia St. John Kersteen, 97 of Portland, ME, wife of the late Malcolm Edward Kersteen, passed away on November 22, 2017, at Springbrook Center in Westbrook, ME. Born in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Ethel St. John.

She moved to Connecticut in 1950 and lived in West Hartford, Farmington, and Simsbury. She had been a resident of The Birchwoods, in Portland, ME most recently. She worked as a secretary at the West Hartford Public Library for many years. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in West Hartford, was a former member of the Golf Club of Avon, was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and was a former docent at the Noah Webster House. She is fondly remembered for her creative handmade pine needle baskets.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Frothingham; and her husband, Malcolm.

She is survived by her two sons, Glenn S. Kersteen of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Gary C. Kersteen and his wife Hilary of Wellfleet, MA; eight granddaughters, Julia Warner, Jane Frothingham, Mary Heitcamp, Rebecca Boxx, Jessica Fuss, Gwendolyn Reimann, Elizabeth Mulligan and Amelia Breckon; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements and a Springtime graveside service will be announced at later date.
