Obituary for Darryl Hagar

It is with great sadness that the family of Darryl Edward Hagar, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the age of 54. Darryl will be forever and lovingly remembered by his wife, Cherly Hagar; sons, Darryl of Bangor, Maine, and Joshua of Portsmouth, Virginia; his mother, Patricia, brothers Mark (Cindy) and Christopher, and his sister Karen-Ann, of all of Damariscotta, Maine; brother, Randall (Gabriele) of Washougal, Washington; his nieces, Katie, Alina, Gabby, Mia, and Samantha; and nephews, Seth, Justin, Camden, and Zachary. Darryl was predeceased by his father, Harry Hagar, Jr in 1983.

Born on April 2, 1963, Darryl grew up in Nobleboro and graduated from Lincoln Academy High School in 1981. He was a proud alumni of the Maine Maritime Academy, where he graduated in 1985 with a degree in maritime navigation. He entered the merchant marines as a 3rd mate, attained the rank of Chief Mate, shipping throughout the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. He aptly carried out many assignments throughout his long career sailing on supertankers, car carriers, and cargo ships, including the wartime logistics ships supporting the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf War.
