K. Todd Osier

Kilton Todd Osier passed on the 19th of January, 2018. He was born the 13th of April, 1936, to Carroll P. Osier and Evelyn L (Poore) Osier. Evelyn subsequently passed from complications of the birth on the 2nd of May, 1936. Todd (as everyone knew him) was raised by his father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends.
In his words, "At nine years old, a great mother was found" in school teacher Iona S. Brackett. When asked recently what his best memory was, he stated his most wonderful was that of experiencing the wedding which took place right at their home in New Harbor.

After High School he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate. During his tenure he ran small boats on logistical and rescue missions. He then served on 311-foot ocean-station ships in the North Atlantic from Greenland to Bermuda on 30-day tours. His favorite ship was the 213-foot ocean-going tug Acushnet out of Portland. His travels included Denmark, England, Haiti, Cuba, Bermuda, and Canada. He ultimately became Officer in Charge of several offshore lighthouses, the entire Jonesport Station and finally, Base Southwest Harbor. During his career, he also became a Master Mason of Tremont Lodge #77 AFAM, and later the ANAH Shrine of Bangor. After retiring he stayed on Mount Desert Island and did finish carpentry for boat and house builders until 1996.

More recently, he enjoyed doing research on his family history, and his daughter traced the surname to "Auger" in 1610 from New Salem, Massachusetts in the new world back to England and France.

He was predeceased by wife, Gloria Jean Labrie in 1993; and is survived by his son, Todd L.; and daughter, Jannine D. Oates; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins. He also had twins, Frank and Royce from a previous marriage.

His immediate family would like to thank Gregory Oates (son-in-law) for all his support and assistance to Todd over the past years.

Todd will be laid to rest with his parents in New Harbor, where he was raised. At his request there will be no funeral service. He had asked to have any donations made to the Bristol Area Library, PO Box 173, New Harbor, ME 04554.
