You thought you knew the “Science of Grinding” and then you meet Dr. Lindsay and realize, your knowledge is only the tip of the iceberg.  You couldn’t be a true student of the art until you had a technical discussion with Dick.  You couldn’t be an Application Engineer until you met Dick Lindsay!   He trained many employees at Norton |Saint Gobain.  His works are still cited and referenced today.  Most of all he was patient and he treated people with respect. 

For years, even after retirement, he was an integral part of Norton | Saint Gobain’ s customer training: The Norton Precision Grinding Seminar.  For many at Norton | Saint Gobain, that is how we came to know Dick, me included.  We hosted 40-50 customers 2 times per year, where Dick would share some of his knowledge with Operators, Engineers, Managers and Scientists.  He had an uncanny ability to communicate at all levels and raise your knowledge at the same time.  He could make some of the driest topics fun and interesting.  I always enjoyed hearing about his hiking adventures and stories of his projects working with others at Norton|SGA.  His memory will live forever in many of our minds and hearts.
