Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Huson

Elizabeth "Betty" Huson
Elizabeth Ann Dalbeck Huson (Betty), of Damariscotta and Bremen, Maine died February 16, 2018. She was born August 2, 1927 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Harold Lewis and Elizabeth Wharton Kessell Dalbeck. Betty grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts where she attended Belmont schools and graduated from the Brimmer and May School in 1945. In 1949 she graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. Tee, as she was known in college, was president of her senior class, and a proud and active alumna in the years following.

In 1950 she married Robert Elliot Huson (Bob), and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2010, 5 months before Bob died. During these years they lived in Penn Square Village, Pennsylvania, Newtown, Connecticut, Short Hills, New Jersey and Paoli, Pennsylvania and welcomed two sons and a daughter to their family. Betty was a 1st grade and pre-school teacher and a part time accountant, and a volunteer in the local church, school, and hospital where they lived.

Betty attended summer camp as a camper and was a counselor of sailing, canoeing and swimming during college years. She also enjoyed playing tennis, paddle tennis, sewing, needle pointing, bridge, playing the piano and attending concerts. Most of all she loved being Bob’s wife and mother to their three children and grandmother to her many grandchildren. Friendships were important, some lasting most of her life. Recent friendships at Schooner Cove were close and cherished.

In 1993 Betty and Bob bought their “cozy cottage” on Biscay Pond in Bremen, Maine where many happy summers with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends have been enjoyed. In 2005 they moved to Schooner Cove Retirement Community and became full-time Mainers. Betty lived her 90 year life to the fullest and her cheerful personality was enjoyed by all who came in contact with her. She had a way of making us all feel included and welcome in whatever she did.

Betty was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Richard Dalbeck of Cape Elizabeth and Round Pond, Maine.

She is survived by her three children: Bob, Jr. and his wife Lynn of St. Louis, Missouri, Rick and his wife Lynn of New Bern, North Carolina, and Beth and her husband Caleb of Indiana, Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren: Mark and his partner Lauren of Portland, Oregon, Kim and her husband Rob of Richmond, Virginia, Noah and his brother Jack of Indiana, Pennsylvania, John and his wife Melissa of St. Peters, Missouri and Matthew and his wife Lindsay of Saunderstown, Rhode Island. Additionally, she is survived by two great grandchildren: JJ and Willa. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Shirley; nieces, Barbara and Betsey; and nephew, Bruce and their families.

Burial will be in the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a memorial service to occur at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
