Condolences

Condolence From: John Paige
Condolence: I taught with Jean at Brunswick Junior High for many years. Several of those years, Jean and I were on a teaching team with Rick Scala and Lisa Cushman. Those years were among the very best of my 44 year career in public school education. Jean was a kind, insightful and highly successful teacher from whom I learned a lot about patience and persistence. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and an innate sense of elegance. I will miss you, Jean, fare well!

Condolence: I had the privilege of teaching school with Jean Turner for many years. She was one of the most dedicated and compassionate people that I taught with. She always had time for the struggling student as well as the high achievers. Her standards were high for herself as well as her students. For her, every piece of writing for every student was worthwhile, and because of that was worth polishing and improving. Rebeckah, I want you to know that many years ago, Jean gave me a Christmas ornament made by Tommie DiPaola, a favorite author of ours. It remains one of my favorite possessions, and is the first to be displayed in my house every year. Jean was one of the classiest people that I have ever met. She will be missed.

Condolence: Our Book Club, of which Jean was a cherished member for many years, met last Thursday. Jean's name was mentioned because some of us were not aware of her situation over the past few months. Barbara Hamlin, also a member of the Union Congregational Church, was the one to inform us of Jean's recent death. Then the recital of memories followed - her wonderful literary background; her thoughtful and meaningful additions to our book discussions, her grace and charm as a hostess - and that she always set the table beautifully! Those of us who had children fortunate to have had her for a junior high English teacher remembered how she enriched their lives. She was a wonderful friend, teacher, mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother-I know even though I did not witness her in all those capacities. May she rest in peace. With sympathy, Lois Widmer

Condolence: I have so many fond memories of Jean, a colleague and friend. When I first arrived in the U.S. she was very supportive and encouraging. She always remembered that I gave her an English bone china mug when she left BJHS. A very special woman.

Condolence: I was very sorry to read of Jean's passing. I taught with her at Brunswick Junior High School from 1982 until she moved to South Bristol. She was loved by all students and faculty. She always had a kind word to encourage struggling student. As a veteran teacher Jean would also welcome new teachers and guide them. I remember when Jean's grandchildren were born and how proud she was to tell us about them at lunch in the teachers' room. I am fortunate to have known Jean and to have called her a colleague and a friend. I share your sorrow.

Condolence: I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Turner was my 6th grade English teacher at Brunswick Junior High and one of my favorite teachers. She was wonderful, caring and fun! She once tried to scare the hiccups out of me by shouting "Boo!" in class. She will be missed by many, Warmest thoughts to your entire family.
