Obituary for Lana Simmons

Lana H. Simmons, 76 of Friendship, passed away on the morning of March 19th at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, surrounded by her family. Born in Rockland on March 3, 1942, she was the daughter of Bernard and Geraldine (Burns) Brow.

Lana grew up in Friendship and attended local schools before helping her parents raise her younger siblings. In her mid-teens, she went to work at the fish factory in Rockland. She would go on to work at the button factory in Waldoboro for over 15 years. When the factory closed, she went to work for Lusty Lobster in Bremen for several years, before starting a ten year career as a baker and line cook at Moody’s Diner.

She loved baking more than anything, and when she wasn’t baking at work, she was baking at home. She made homemade donuts out of her own kitchen and sold them to local lobstermen. When she wasn’t in a kitchen, she could often be found at local lawn sales.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Simmons; and a sister, Christy McFarland.

Lana is survived by her five siblings, Karen Seiders of Boothbay, Brenda Machia and her husband Larry of Warren, Jeff Brow and his wife Sharon of Warren, Mike Brow of Bristol, and Kim Brow and her significant other Dickie Burns of Round Pond; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Willey, Candace Mank, Josh Brow, Jeri Cruz, Richard McFarland, Mike Brow, and Heather Brow; several great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many special friends.

A gathering will be held for family and close friends later in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
