Obituary for Lee Ramstrom

Lee Webber Ramstrom, 81, of Topsham, and recently Newcastle, Maine, passed away on May 14th at Midcoast Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, MA on April 14, 1937, he was the only child of John and Lois Ramstrom, of Bremen, Maine.

Lee graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1954. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design from Wentworth Institute in Boston, and his BS in Math and Physics from Elmira College.

Lee began his career at Ingersol Rand in Athens, PA, in 1956. In 1967, he was hired as a senior project engineer for Black and Decker. While at Black and Decker, he obtained numerous patents for his cordless drill and battery pack designs. Later in his career, he became Director of Technology for DeWalt Tools, a role that took him all over the world.

After retiring in 2000, he and his wife moved from Maryland to Hilton Head Island, SC. In 2007, they moved to Maine, where he spent his time working on home improvement projects, reading, gardening, watercolor painting, and designing and building furniture.

Lee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra Ramstrom; two children, Deborah Johnson (husband Randy) of Bath, ME, and Mark Ramstrom of Columbia, MD. He has three grandchildren, Daniel Colbert, Megan Ramstrom, and Sarah Ramstrom, and three grandsons, Camden, Hudson, and Kai.

A memorial service for Lee will be held at 10:00am, on Saturday, May 19th at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home in Damariscotta.
