Obituary for Evangeline O'Brien

Evangeline O'Brien
Evangeline “Vangie” O’Brien, 89 of Damariscotta, passed away on the evening of May 31st, with her loving family by her side, at Glenridge in Augusta. Born on September 16, 1928 in Rockport, she was the daughter of Edward and Flora (Davis) Noyes.

Vangie grew up in Rockport, attending local schools before going to Portland where she graduated high school. In 1949, she married John C. O’Brien and the couple would raise their three children together in both Portland and Round Pond.

Vangie worked at the Cheechako restaurant in Damariscotta for several years where she tended bar. She loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it was watching the New England Patriots, playing cards, or camping. She and John took their camper to Florida and Arizona for several winters and enjoyed their time together. Vangie was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, but more than anything she loved being with family and friends.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Glenridge, as well as the Maine General Hospice staff for the excellent care they provided to her in her final months.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John; granddaughter, Shelly O’Brien; and twelve brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, J. Craig O’Brien, Jr. and his wife Betsy of Bristol, Susan Collamore of Damariscotta, and Mark O’Brien and his wife Karen of Pittston; six grandchildren, Amy O’Brien, Andrea Krah, Stacey Simmons, Robyn Collamore, Travis O’Brien and Brady O’Brien; as well as many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, on Thursday, June 7th at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Round Pond.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
