Obituary for Patricia "Patty" Hagar

Patricia "Patty" Hagar
It is with sadness that the family of Patricia J. Hagar announces her passing on September 5, 2018 at the age of 78. Patty will be forever and lovingly remembered by her children Mark and Karen-Ann of Damariscotta, Maine, Randall (Gabriele) of Washougal, Washington, and Christopher of Palmer, Alaska. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katie, Alina, Gabby, Mia, Samantha, Seth, Justin, Camden, Zachary, Darryl and Joshua; her sisters, Polly Dalton of Wiscasset, Mary Gilman of Florida, and Linda Simmons of Nobleboro; her brothers, Paul of Brunswick and Bradley of Thomaston; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia was predeceased by her mother, Gertrude Jacobs; father, Paul Jacobs; husband, Harry Hagar Jr; son, Darryl Edward Hagar; her sister, Sally Blake; and her brothers, Gordon, Richard, Roland, Winton, and Robert Jacobs.

Patty was born in Damariscotta, grew up in Newcastle, attended Franklin Elementary school and graduated from Lincoln Academy high school in 1958. After high school, she married Harry E. Hagar Jr. of Newcastle in 1959, who had been honorably discharged from the United States Army. They started a family in Newcastle, and eventually settled in Nobleboro, Maine.

Patty worked for the Sylvania light bulb filament plant in Waldoboro, the First National Grocery store and MOBIUS in Damariscotta, as well as caring for the elderly, making many friends along the way. She was very active in the Lincoln County community, caring for her five children while working and volunteering as a Sunday school teacher at her church, the Damariscotta Baptist Church, playing in adult softball and bowling leagues. She also served the Boy Scouts as a den-mother, attended to countless family events and amazingly, attended most of her children’s sports and other extracurricular activities, with zeal.

As a young athlete herself, she especially enjoyed basketball, once scoring 36 points for the Lincoln Academy girls’ varsity team. She was a familiar sight at many of the Lincoln Academy sports events, zealously rooting for the home team. She left an indelible impression on most who knew her. She is remembered for her positivity and caring personality, endearing her to the Damariscotta community.

A celebration of Patty’s life will be held at the Duck Puddle Campground, on Sunday, September 16th at 2:00. A private interment in Nobleboro, Maine with immediate family members, is planned in the future.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hodgdon Green, the assisted care facility within the ElderCare Network of Lincoln County, where Patricia lived the last few years of her life. Checks may be made to Eldercare Network of Lincoln County, PO Box 652, Damariscotta, Maine, 04543.
