Obituary for Bradley Jacobs

Bradley Jacobs
Bradley L. Jacobs, passed away on the evening of October 28th at the Togus, VA hospital in Augusta. He was born on April 1, 1934, one of seven sons of Paul and Gertrude Feltis Jacobs of Newcastle.

Bradley attended Lincoln Academy, and in 1951 he left school to join the U.S. Navy. Bradley got injured while serving in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and was later medically discharged. He returned home to Newcastle for a period, then decided to go to the west coast where he settled down and married Barbara Johnson, where he raised a daughter, Diane Jacobs.

Bradley was a happy-go-lucky person, who was always laughing and getting others to as well. He loved telling stories, jokes and enjoyed pulling tricks on people.

Later in life, Bradley divorced and moved back to Maine and bought a house in Damariscotta for a few years. Bradley decided he wanted to go back to the west coast, where his daughter and grandchildren were. He remarried and had another daughter, Andrea.

Bradley had trouble with his pre-existing medical issues from his injury in the Navy, and ended up in a Veterans’ home in Oregon. His family eventually brought him back to Maine, where he spent the rest of his life with family members.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Diane; brothers, Richard, Roland, Gordon, Winton and Robert; as well as sisters, Sally Blake and Patricia Hagar.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Jacobs of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren, including a special grandson, Nathan Jacobs of Las Vegas, Nevada, Samantha Jacobs Williams of Portland, Oregon, Alena Steffens, and Billy Williams of Eugene, Oregon; one brother, Paul, Jr. of Brunswick; three sisters, Polly Dalton of Wiscasset, Mary Gilman of Port Richey, Florida, and Linda Simmons of Nobleboro; five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bradley’s family would like to thank both Tim and Kelly Carr for the special care they gave to him over the past five years.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am, on Saturday, November 3rd at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta. A service will follow at 11:00am, also at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest privately, with military honors, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for his family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
