Obituary for Myrtle Ann Hanna

Myrtle Ann Hanna
Myrtle Ann Crocker Hanna was born in Portland, Maine on February 20,1932, the daughter of Captain Claude P. Crocker and Barbara Stilphen Crocker.

Married to George H. Hanna on November 4,1950, they were married 65 years and raised their family in New Harbor and Pemaquid Falls, and moved to Round Pond in 1972. She and her husband George were active in the Bristol Footlighters, and loved to host family Christmas Eve gatherings. They were terrific dancers and never passed up the opportunity to dance.

She began working at the Bristol Consolidated in the late 1960's as a teacher's aide, and studied to become a teacher. She graduated from the University of Maine Orono in 1970, and began teaching at the Nobleboro Central School that year. A few years later, she transferred to Bristol Consolidated School where she taught 5th grade and Junior High Reading. She retired as a much loved and respected teacher in 1992.

After her retirement, she continued to live in Round Pond and traveled often with her husband George. She also turned to painting and produced many wonderful landscape and floral acrylic paintings.

She was a long-time member of the New Harbor and Round Pond United Methodist Churches, and was involved with church activities and ministry until her health precluded participation earlier this year. She was a member of a group of friends called the "Knitters Club" that established lifelong friendships.

She moved to the Lincoln Home in Newcastle, Maine in May of this year, and passed away quietly on November 10, 2018 surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her sister, Claudia Hatch and husband Fred; four children, Barbara Hanna, Amy Doherty, Chad Hanna and wife Mary, and Nathan Hanna and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Erica Swift, Alyssa Doherty, Chad Michael Hanna and wife Aimee, Brynne Whitney and husband Andrew, Jared Hanna, Kaitlin Hanna and husband Salum “Abui” Salum, Thomas Hanna, and Matthew Hanna; five great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews too numerous to count.

She was predeceased by her husband, George; sister, Joyce Coleman; son-in-law, Vincent Doherty; grandson, Stephen Hanna; and granddaughter, Myrtle Elizabeth "Meg" Lane.

A memorial service will be held at the Round Pond United Methodist Church, at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 17, 2018. A gathering will follow the service at the 1812 Farm in Bristol Mills at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol First Responders, 104 South Side Road, New Harbor, ME 04554.
