Obituary for Robert Pedrick Jr.

Robert “Rob” G. Pedrick, Jr., passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, January 12th at his home in Round Pond, Maine. Though he will be greatly missed, we would like to celebrate Rob’s life, which was abundant and happy. In addition to being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a talented musician and loved the natural beauty of Maine’s rugged coastline. He was born in Camden, NJ on January 20, 1945 and grew up in Oaklyn, NJ, and despite beginning his life and spending many years in New Jersey, his love of Maine was profound. He often said he liked to think of himself as a “Native Mainer” because he felt so at home on his many trips to Maine prior to moving here. He and his wife, Sally, decided to make the lovely coastal town of Round Pond, Maine their home in 1997.

An avid fisherman and hiker of trails, Rob often took his small boat out fishing and loved to be in nature. He had just recently hiked the island of Monhegan, and delighted in the views of the ocean from the highest cliffs.

Rob was an incredibly talented musician, playing ten instruments, including a vast array of wind instruments, including clarinet and oboe and saxophone. He played in a local band – The Bath Municipal Band - and taught music to students for years. Those who knew Rob best, knew that he rarely spent a day without waking up and playing his saxophone.

His wife, Sally DeLorme Pedrick, a noted abstract expressionist painter, shared Rob’s love of music, as he shared her love of art. For decades, he made the wood frames for her paintings and helped her exhibit her art. They enjoyed hosting art openings at their Round Pond home, The Library Art Studio, and later at their second home in Canada.

In 2007, Sally and Rob bought a home in Maximeville, Prince Edward Island, an area very similar in scenic beauty to his beloved coastal Maine. Rob also played with a group of local musicians on PEI, bringing his love of music to Canada as well.

Before retiring, Rob was an Investigator with the State of New Jersey Treasury. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, and the son of Edith and Robert G. Pedrick, Sr. of Oaklyn, NJ. After living in New Jersey for many years - including Ocean City, Haddonfield and Greenwich townships - he moved to Maine, where his wife, Sally, who was born in Newport, Rhode Island, had grown up and attended college.

He is survived by his wife, Sally DeLorme Pedrick of Round Pond, ME; his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Barbara Pedrick of Concord, NC; his stepdaughter, Yvette Dunbar of Plymouth Meeting, PA; his stepson and step daughter-in-law, Jesse and Karen Dunbar of Newtown, CT; his sister Suzanne Lederman and husband, David, of Globe, AZ; he was a grandfather of nine, including Katie, Emily, Jacob and Samuel (children of Jonathan and Barbara) Vincent and Taylor (children of Yvette) and Katherine, Sarah and Charlotte (children of Jesse and Karen) he also has two great granddaughters, Ava and Alexandria, by his grandson Vincent and Michelle.

Rob’s family wishes him to be remembered for his great love of family, music and nature. There will be no memorial service at his request. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
