Christine Lillian Watson Rand, 91 of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully under hospice care on January 21 at Avita of Brunswick. She was born on February 13, 1927 in Limerick, Maine to parents James Edwin Watson and Mary Isobel MacNeil. She was the youngest of six children.

A graduate of Limerick High School, Christine (known as Teenie to her intimate friends and family) went on to marry Donald Wesley Rand on March 20, 1948. They became parents of Jane Ellen, Charles Edwin, and Susan Mary.

Chris and Don began their married life in Dover and Lee, New Hampshire moving to Damariscotta in 1960 to manage her brother Jim’s store later known as Tony’s Market. At that time the store had a connected 2-room apartment in the back where the family lived. She cared for her children in the back while making pizzas and subs for customers in the front.

After leaving the store, Chris cared for her children until her youngest started school at which time she began working as a teller at the First National Bank of Damariscotta. She remained there for over two decades and probably knew everyone in town. Apart from her work, she focused on her family members in her role as daughter, mother, grandmother and supportive sibling to her brothers and sisters as they aged. Chris also had a great love for animals and had many beloved feline and canine pets over the years.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald; her infant daughter, Jane Ellen; sisters, Barbara Andersson and Helen King; and brothers, Kenneth, James and Richard.

She is survived by her children, Charles Rand and wife Belinda Osier of Cumberland Foreside, ME; Susan Rand McAlister and husband Gary McAlister of Franklin, MA; grandchildren, Thomas Rand of Solon, IA and Amelia Rand of Iowa City, IA, Daniel McAlister and wife Robyn of Truckee, CA, Jesse McAlister of Newark, DE; and great-grandson, Ronan McAlister of Truckee, CA.

Visiting hours will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, January 26th at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home in Damariscotta. Interment will take place in the spring at the Highland Cemetery in Limerick.
