Obituary for Debrah Hutchins

Debrah Hutchins
Debrah Z. Hutchins, 65 of Bristol, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of February 8, 2019, at the LincolnHealth - Miles campus in Damariscotta.

Debrah was born on June 14, 1953 to Anthony (Bud) and Judy Zielinski in Rome, New York. She learned to water ski at a young age, and spent much time on the lakes near her home. The family camp on Oneida Lake was a special place to her. Debbie spent a lot of time with a large extended family and friends in her neighborhood. She attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1971.

Upon graduating, she spent time working in both Rome and Syracuse before moving to California. There, she worked as a corporate secretary in public relations for Kaiser Steel in the 1980s, before moving back to upstate New York. She often traveled to Pemaquid Point, Maine with her family. It was here that she met Jimmy and relocated permanently in the early 90s. Debbie cleaned homes as her primary occupation.

In her free time, she spent hours devoted to her gardens on Pemaquid Point. She was known for her beautiful flowerbeds, which contained her favorite flowers such as astilbes and gladiolas. She often delivered bouquets to friends and family. She had one of the kindest hearts, and wanted to help others. She loved boating and fishing on the ocean, listening to classic rock, and driving her 280ZX. Debrah was a great cook, and will be remembered for her Polish dishes, and big holiday and birthday dinners.

She was a dedicated mother and faithful friend. She always had an open ear and reassuring squeeze of the hand. Debbie was the kind of person who made friends everywhere she went. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Debrah faced many health issues in the last several years of her life, but demonstrated a resilience that inspired others. Through it all, she retained her quick wit and fierce independence.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bud and Jude; and twin siblings, Martha and Thomas, who died at birth.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her husband, James Benner of Bristol; daughter, Jessica Hilton and husband Nathan of Damariscotta; daughter, Leah and husband Steven of Essex Junction, VT; daughter, Amanda and husband Tim of Georgia Vermont; her grandchildren, Abby, Fiona, Hannah, Connor, Rhys, Tessa, and Isaac; her extended family and wonderful friends.

Her family wishes to thank the Bristol First Responders, the CLC Ambulance Service, MaineHealth Care at Home, and the LincolnHealth - Miles Campus for all of their help and kindness.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 11am, at The Wavus Camp for Girls, 88 Wavus Point Road in Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol First Responders, 104 South Side Road, New Harbor, ME 04554.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
