Obituary for Irving Banks Sr.

IRVING FARNHAM BANKS, SR.

It is with very heavy hearts we let you know our husband, father, and grandfather passed away on September 15,2016. Born in Jefferson on August 21,1925 to William and Winifred Farnham Banks, he was raised with siblings Winston, Waddy and Joyce, all of whom predeceased him.

On August 28,1943, he married Cynthia Jackson, and even though they had just celebrated their 73rd anniversary, he often introduced her as his bride. Together they raised their six children; Dorothy, Irving, Jr. (Buddy) who predeceased him, Donna, Shirley, Sheila, and Nancy. Also surviving him are sons-in law, Maurice Wing, Sr. and Thomas Clark, Sr.

Irving was a hard working man and took pleasure in keeping a lovely lawn, gardens and recently, stone walls. Always of interest to Dad was the weather and the Red Sox. Singing and humming let us know all was well in his life. He was long-time member of the Riverside Masonic Lodge #135 in Jefferson.

Grampa enjoyed his 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and his nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are sister-law, Leah Libby; and brother-in-law, Errol Clark.

Graveside services will be held at 2PM on Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2016 at the Trask Lawn Cemetery, South Clary Road, Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for the family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
