Obituary for Barbara Contardo

Barbara Joan Contardo, 76 of Newcastle, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, April 4, 2019. Barbara was born on March 15, 1943 in Everett, Massachusetts to Rose and Leonard Contardo.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Boston University, and post-graduate work in Economics at Harvard University. She achieved professional recognition as an Executive Member of the American Marketing Association and served as its President of the Boston Chapter. In her career, of over thirty plus years, she advanced to Assistant Vice President, Corporate Marketing, at New England Life.

Barbara enjoyed traveling both for business and pleasure. Whether attending business meetings in New York / Washington DC, to relaxing on a beach in Maui or skiing the slopes of Colorado or Zermatt, Switzerland, she always explored local stores and markets for that item she or for a friend “had to have”. People, friends and relatives, were always part her life. She shared her bountiful life with them and many charities, always recognizing the importance of giving back.

Until 2006 she maintained a dual residency in Everett and Newcastle, but finally decided to enjoy her home and new friends in Maine. Time for her to retire….but still explore new personal and marketing venues.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Capuano Contardo; her father, Leonard (Leo) Contardo; and her aunt, Celia Capuano.

She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Rosenberry; her very spoiled cat, Frostie Contardo; her dear friend, Richard Scullary; and many cousins and friends. She led her life true to her catholic beliefs of compassion and charity.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, on Monday, April 15, at Saint Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. Her burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Massachusetts with a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, she and her family would appreciate donations be made to Midcoast Humane Society, 190 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
